“By the smallest of one’s actions, one can restore some sense of order to the world.”—Amor Towles
Because Human-ing is harder than Adulting. This is a weekly publication for heart-centered warriors, swimming through this thing called Life.

Accidents of Birth, William Meredith
Dear Embodied Hearts and Dancing Souls,
Many years ago I coined the term “Grititude" to signify an attitude that combined my Grit with Gratitude. I know I champion Play but honestly life takes so much grit also, eh? Whether you are having gratitude or grititude this week — or like me, a healthy mixture of both, here is a bit of a pause before next month’s start.
Right now several people are helping me carry burdens small and large. I am grateful for each of them; I plan to thank them for their light on my path. And you! Thank you for your light and readership. If I can help you carry a small or large burden, let me know.
Big and Small. Our acts can seem small. I am never in charge of all the Big that unfolds in my Life…….the impact’s from other people’s choices and actions–whether a family member or the government or a service provider. I am only in charge of the small— my small. I imagine holding my palm balled up in a fist and slowly unfurling each finger to find a monarch butterfly opening and closing its wings. Or gazing into a kaleidoscope where my hand plays with the view, turning one way and another, as I take in the resulting mosaic.
Gratitude acknowledges we are all part of a larger whole.
This makes sense when the context is a historical backdrop of apparatchiks reigning destruction in your country (as it is in my novel). But it is also true for each of us within the backdrop of our lineage. We barely glimpse the greater mystery unfolding that we take part of in our families, whatever our relationship with them might be. Constantly I have to learn to listen to my heart, unlearn my mind, and adjust my sails accordingly.
Sharing the Gifts: What is it like to ride your Light Stream? On Friday I had the opportunity to give a talk to a women’s organization in MD. Called Safety, Presence, Play: The Gifts of Climbing Into Your Body this talk is one I’ve been wanting to do for awhile. Using InterPlay forms to make the talk interactive and experiential, I wove in my magic linking people’s experience to their Divinity and their lived humanity. As I led, I felt the instant people’s Body Spirits expanded in the room. This put me further in my heart and lit me up. And, oh the magnificence that was unleashed. Women felt witnessed in their vulnerability. Another woman, who walked in with a brace, discovered that for the first time, she wasn’t feeling pain in her knee. Tears, hugs, many smiles.
Moments of magic flowed before, during and after the talk. My desire to have my talk videotaped came true out of the blue minutes before the meeting started. A woman who had gotten there early (like me) listened to my longing and chose to offer her video tech support skills on the spot. Just, could I find a stand for her phone? In an instant, I conjured the needed stand from the owner of the facility whom I had met 10 minutes earlier. Et voila, I received a tiny window into the experience with a recording.
On the car ride home, the YouTube Music app on my phone somehow hooked up to my car stereo and then autoplayed selections based on the playlist from the talk. Whaat? I don’t even know how to make this happen on my own! This led to my being serenaded the entire drive home, to music that was pitch perfect to the feeling in my heart. All around me, there was snow coming down, car crashes and +13 minute traffic delays. 🌨️ Yet, I got to have surprise and revelation in my body as I listened to a new musician or song I had never heard before. As the coda, a jazz version of Just My Imagination came on as I pulled into my neighborhood! 🌞
Sheer perfection. My heart was full on beaming when I landed home.
Preschooler Funnies. The next day, my 4 year old niece asks to FaceTime me as her mother makes her pumpkin pancakes. At one point I say, Guess what? I helped people learn how to dance yesterday. She didn’t engage with that. Then thinking of my pre-school audience, I re-phrased. Trying again, I said, I mean, I was teaching adults to dance. This time, my niece paused. She looked down thoughtfully, and then back up to me through the screen. That’s when she asks, “Can you teach Mommy?” 😂
Whether you are alone or gathering with others, I send you blessings for Peace, Stillness, Gratitude and Grititude for your holiday. Stay #heartwoke.
